pulled a gun out of the safe that has a cheap, 40mm, chinese made pro point red dot on it. touched the sight and it felt almost as sticky as a piece of duct tape and the black stuff sticks to you. i can't wipe it off the sight. it won't even come off with acetone; it just smears around. i've pretty much decided that i'm going to take it to the range and shoot it. but until i do, i was curious to see if anybody else has experienced anything like this. weird. chinese paint again, i guess. thanks

by chance, i took a friend out shooting yesterday and he has a cheap scope like you have. it had the same thing. i asked if he was handling a candybar when he handled it cuz it was really sticky. he wasnt sure where it came from either.

also, he had bought another NEW illuminated reticle chinese scope for his rifle. the vertical wouldnt adjust.

btw. you get what you pay for.

Sounds to me that either a cleaning solvent or a lubricant touched the piece. Both can be like battery acid on plastic and some paints.
